The Aesthetic: Dramatic Neoclassicism
This curated duo from Jopeko-Keramik is a rare find in the "Oxblood & Umber" glossy glaze. Featuring the celebrated "Chariot" relief, the vases depict a cinematic Roman racing scene. The glossy, reactive glaze is the star here; a deep, rich oxblood red transitions into a dark, earthy chocolate brown within the recesses of the relief. This creates a stunning three-dimensional effect, making the neoclassical figures appear to leap off the surface of the vases.
Design & Craftsmanship:
The larger vase, Model 6101-30, is one of Jopeko’s most balanced forms—sturdy enough to hold a large bouquet but sophisticated enough to stand as a solitary art object. The smaller model, a 18 cm "Globe" is designed for intimate spaces. Its spherical shape makes it an ideal centerpiece for a coffee table, a desk, or a bookshelf, where its tactile relief can be appreciated up close. The "Chariot" series represents a unique moment in mid-century design where European factories moved away from pure abstraction to embrace "Historical Modernism." The high-gloss finish adds a layer of formal elegance rarely seen in the more common matte versions of this form.
Condition & Provenance:
Both vases are in excellent vintage condition. The glossy enamel remains vibrant and reflective with no "flea bites" to the relief edges—a common issue with these molded pieces. The larger vase's base features the characteristic Jopeko markings and the model number 6101-30. The smaller base has no markings.
