Chinese porcelain Baxian meiping, a plum shape vase with a white glazed interior, polychrome glazed exterior, a gilt lip, and … Read more Chinese porcelain Baxian meiping, a plum shape vase with a white glazed interior, polychrome glazed exterior, a gilt lip, and a satin white, glazed base with a bright white, glazed circular inset. The gilt lip ends in a thin red ringlet and a band of red and white, leafy lappets on a yellow ground. The base of the neck has a blue and white, cloud and thunder meander, bracketed by red and gold ringlets. Next is a wider band of four, leafy, bud and flower medallions alternating with blue wanzi symbols on a light green ground. Surrounding this band is a border of polychrome, Ru Yi lappets. The body has two finely drawn, shaded and detailed depictions of a group of nine Immortals and a group of eleven Immortals, alternating with finley drawn, highly detailed, mountain landscapes, fading into the distance in Chinese aerial perspective. Both groups of Immortals show deities riding fenghuangs in the sky and riding xiangyun (auspicious clouds). A border of large, polychrome, Ru Yi lappets adorns the foot of the vase. A blue, six character, Yongzheng, reign mark within double circles is glazed to the inset base. The finely carved and reticulated, traditional, Chinese, hongmu stand, and the custom fitted, plush lined, storage case are included. Circa Republic of China era, no later than mid century.

The Immortals are:
He Xiangu (何仙姑), in modern context generally seen as the only female of the group, often depicted holding a lotus flower.
Cao Guojiu (曹國舅), related to a Song dynasty emperor before he became an immortal.
Li Tieguai (李鐵拐), considered to be mentally disturbed and associated with medicine and easing the suffering of the sick and needy,[1] identified by his iron crutch and calabash bottle.
Lan Caihe (藍采和), originally pictured as female; later becoming ambiguous, and is considered the patron of florists[3][4] and gardeners.
Lü Dongbin (呂洞賓), a scholar and poet considered to be the leader of the Eight Immortals.
Han Xiangzi (韓湘子), a flute artist.
Zhang Guolao (張果老), a fangshi symbol of longevity.
Zhongli Quan (鍾離權), associated with death and the power to create silver and gold, often depicted holding a fan. See less
