This impressive architectural fragment features exuberant scrolling foliate ornament rising in symmetrical movement across the crest rail, deeply carved with acanthus leaves and C-scrolls that create dramatic shadow and dimension. Below the scrolling crest, a painted frieze is embellished with applied floral cartouches and scrolling motifs, adding depth and layered ornamentation. The piece retains its original parcel-gilt decoration over a painted gesso ground, creating a warm contrast between luminous gilded highlights and the softly toned painted surfaces.
