19th Century English Chinoiserie Tea Caddy with Dual Interior Canisters
A 19th century English chinoiserie tea caddy of faceted octagonal form, raised on carved paw feet and decorated in gilt over a dark lacquered ground.
The exterior is densely detailed with traditional chinoiserie scenes including pagodas, figures, florals, and garden motifs rendered in warm gilt tones. The hinged lid opens to a fitted interior retaining two original lidded metal tea canisters within a divided lining. The underside of the lid retains its original lacquered finish.
Tea caddies of this type were luxury objects intended to store valuable imported teas. The presence of both interior canisters enhances desirability and completeness.
