Lee Waisler Etching in Gilt Wood Frame, signed “Waisler” lower right and numbered “1/15” lower left.
Lee Waisler (b. 1938) is a listed Los Angeles artist known for his portraits of important people and later, the use of wood elements in his extra large paintings.
In the early days, when he was first gaining recognition in the “art world”, in the 1960s, his forte was printmaking, and this large, vivid etching would have been of that period.
In 1977, about two years after Moody Gallery in Houston, opened its doors, this would have been one of the brightest stars on display; the remnant of the original label, with the phone number takes us there.
It was acquired for inclusion into a corporate art collection and now, re-framed, available here, at CONTEXTvintage and Chairish.
The softness of the top contrasts starkly with the DEEPEST forest green and ELECTRIC blue, while the heavy ground of black quiets the visual activity…until your eyes go through the piece again.

Lee Waisler creates a strong sense of character and place through the hard lines and graphic qualities of his paintings.
