Pair of 19th Century Chinese Export "Canton" Blue & White Shallow Bowls, 8.75"
Elevate your Chinoiserie collection with this matched pair of authentic 19th-century Chinese Export porcelain shallow bowls. Hand-painted in vibrant underglaze cobalt blue, the iconic "Canton" pattern depicts a serene river landscape with pagodas and bridges, framed by a classic lattice-and-cloud border. These shallow, wide-rimmed bowls are a rare and versatile form, perfect for wall displays or as elegant shelf accents in a traditional or grandmillennial interior.
Condition: Good Antique Condition.
These bowls exhibit the soulful, handmade characteristics of authentic 19th-century export porcelain. Both pieces feature original production markers, including kiln ash specks (small dark "pepper" spots) and glaze pitting (tiny pinholes) from the wood-firing process. Each bowl has a single, stable hairline crack—one notably running from the rim through the central medallion—and minor "fritting" (tiny glaze flakes) along the edges consistent with over 150 years of age. These structural imperfections are common for the era and do not detract from the pair's exceptional display quality.
A wonderful, character-filled pair for the collector who appreciates the history and hand-rendered charm of true China Trade porcelain.
