A pair of 18th-century English creamware plates in the tortoiseshell manner associated with Thomas Whieldon, circa 1760.
Scalloped rims with mottled green and brown "tortoiseshell" lead glazes over fine cream paste, displaying characteristic swirling cloud-like effects from manganese and copper oxides; classic Staffordshire earthenware form from the pioneering creamware period.
