Wassily Kandinsky ( 1866 - 1944 ) was a Russian born Modern Expressionist painter and art theorist. He is considered to be one of the most important Abstract artists of all time, and the pioneer of The Abstract Art Movement. He was an educator at the famous Bauhaus School in Germany. He is credited with landmark theories relating to his original color compositions and concepts of spiritual life and humanity in his artworks. Art works by Kandinsky are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Visionary genius Aime Maeght opened his infamous art gallery The Galerie Maeght in 1945 in Paris France. Coinciding with the end of World War II and the return of many exiled artists back to France. The greatest international artists of the time exhibited at the gallery including Francis Bacon, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Richard Lindner, Henri Matisse, Paul Rebeyrolle, and Walasse Ting, among many others.
In addition to being a gallerist and art dealer, Aime and his son Adrien also founded Maeght Editeur which is recognized as one of the most important and influential publishers of lithographs, books, and fine art posters in the world, such as this exquisite exhibition poster print.
" Bunt Im Dreieck ( Variegation in The Triangle ) " is one of the most remarkable examples of the philosophy that led Kandinsky to give spiritual value to geometric forms and colors during his Bauhaus years. Painted in 1927, the artwork marks a decisive turning point in his work. Due to the extreme social and political climate he left Weimar for Dessau, following many other Bauhaus professors and students. Distancing himself from artists who embraced the growing domination of the far right. Kandinsky placed intuition and spirituality at the heart of his artistic approach.
His painting, " Bunt Im Dreieck " is characterized by lyricism and a simplification of forms, immortalized shapes become calm and solemn and a magnificent range of colors nuance his imagery. The serenity this composition evokes, as well the simple geometric forms, recall certain works by Paul Klee. During their shared time at The Bauhaus, they formed a strong friendship sometimes creating similar pictorial inventions. The vibrant hues, and atmospheric variations of tones, foreshadow the premises that would characterize Kandinsky's Parisian period.
