This is an antique sewing/nursery rocker, estimated to be handcrafted in the mid-to-late 1800s. Wonderfully designed, similar to Windsor, with a saddle seat and spindle back. The spindles are lathe-shaped (flat), making this incredibly comfortable! Most of its construction is hardwood, estimated to be maple or elm, but it could also be a fruitwood. The exception is the legs & stretcher bars, which are oak. It is very sturdy, with the rocker pieces being the perfect size for steady, reliable rocking. Portions of the chair were hand-carved (see photos).
Although it's dimensions are small, many tall people have used it and remarked about how comfortable it is. Simply amazing craftsmanship!
