This charming vintage bud vase, made in England circa 1969–1970s, is a lovely example of the craft Josiah Wedgwood perfected in the late 18th century and that designers and collectors have coveted ever since.
The vase features the classic pear-shaped silhouette with a flared trumpet neck, dressed in crisp white applied relief depicting Aurora & The Chariot of Dawn, Cupid Asleep, and Cupid as Oracle, separated by delicate neoclassical pilaster ornaments. A laurel garland wraps the neck. The matte Wedgwood Blue body, softer and dreamier in person than in photos, provides the perfect foil for the brilliant white figural scenes inspired by ancient Greek and Roman mythology.
Measures approximately 5 inches tall by 3 inches in diameter. Condition is very good vintage with no chips, cracks, or pattern loss.
Whether displayed solo on a mantle or grouped with other blue-and-white pieces, this vase brings a note of understated British elegance to any interior, at home in a traditional library, a Regency-inspired sitting room, or a modern space that plays with collected antiques.
