The rooms were lined with duck decoys and hunting trophies, the quiet evidence of seasons well spent outdoors. This bench had been made for the boot room, commissioned from a carver friend who signed and dated it discreetly in one corner.

Across the entire seat stretches a single Canada Goose, neck extended, wings outstretched in full, declarative glide. The bird is painted in layered grays, blacks, and whites against a sky-blue ground, while the base of the bench is rendered in deep hunter green.

It is functional, yes, but also reverent. A place to pull off boots, certainly. But more than that, a tribute to the hunt, the lake, and the friendships forged in both. See less
