A stunning, colorful, modernist original length of Marimekko Kaivo Blue designed by Maija Isola. It was purchased circa 1975 at the Marimekko store in Helsinki. It is in excellent condition as it has been stored clean, dry and out of the light. It is not faded and has never been laundered. The selvage edge is printed with “MARIMEKKO ? MAIJA ISOLA: “KAIVO” ? -MARIMEKKO OY 1965 SUOMI-FINLAD 100% CO” (see image of selvage for washing instructions).
It is 119.75 inches in length. The full width of the fabric including the selvage edges is 55.25 inches. The width of the print is 52.25 inches.
Originally designed in 1964, the Kaivo pattern features a winding, bulbous ladder that twists through the center of the fabric. The Kaivo Blue pattern evokes water with two vibrant shades of blue in a repeat with deep black. The reverse is clean and contains no non-original marks providing a unique view of the printing process.
