Large Pair of 18th Century Italian Painted and Tooled Leather Panels. Each rectangular panel features a symmetrical composition centered on a classical urn overflowing with florals, surrounding by scrolling acanthus, foliate arabesques, and jewel-toned blossoms in shades of ochre, terracotta, green, ivory, and muted rose. The warm, gilded ground enhances the depth of the tooling. A border of dark metal studs frame each panel, lending architectural structure.
These panels will make a statement flanking fireplace or entry to create architectural symmetry.
