The elongated fuselé form, rising from a rounded pedestal foot, provides a sculptural presence rarely found in standard examples. The warm amber ground, transitioning into smoky tonalities at the rim and base, demonstrates Daum’s refined control of layered coloration and acid carving during its mature Art Nouveau period.

The pine cone motif — deeply symbolic of the Vosges forests surrounding Nancy — embodies the regional identity central to the École de Nancy movement. Signed “Daum Nancy” with the Cross of Lorraine.

About Daum Nancy
Founded in 1878 in Nancy, Lorraine, the Daum glassworks became one of the leading artistic forces of the École de Nancy and the French Art Nouveau movement. Under the direction of Auguste and Antonin Daum, the factory developed sophisticated techniques of multilayered glass, acid-etching, and cameo carving inspired by the flora and forests of the surrounding Vosges region.

At the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, Daum was awarded the Grand Prix, confirming its international reputation alongside contemporaries such as Émile Gallé. Works from this period represent the height of naturalistic French Art Nouveau glass.
