Better known for his distinctive and highly sought-after midcentury cocktail glasses and barware, Fred Press also was an accomplished sculptor.

Fred Press began his artistic career with sculpture, winning awards as a teenager - including four years of an annual soap sculpting contest in the 1930s.

These figurines are lovely, with finely detailed and crisp features. The bodies and poses reflect the dichotomy of the dancer, the long, graceful limbs and the muscular strength needed to make ballet so light and fluid.

Dancers are both signed "FRED PRESS" with copyright symbol.

The female figure measures 3" across at widest, about 2.5" deep, and 9.25" at its tallest point. Sits on a slim 3.25" diameter base.
The male is 9.75” tall, 3.5” wide at its widest, on a 3 1/8” wide base.

Both in good condition, with light wear. We are unsure of the materials. Cold to the touch - so perhaps ceramics. Surprisingly little damage, so likely not plaster. See less
