An original Fall 1956 Quadriga Cloth textile sample sheet by E&W Brands, featuring four bold mid-century modern graphic colorways with stylized floral motifs arranged in rhythmic vertical bands.
This rare archival presentation sheet was produced for the American interiors and fashion trade to showcase new seasonal fabric designs. Each swatch retains its original pinked edges and is mounted to the labeled presentation page with:
Printed order numbers (2131 B–E) “Exclusive Needleized Finish” designation
American Institute of Laundering certification mark
The compositions embody the optimistic graphic language of the 1950s, with saturated palette pairings — turquoise and espresso, citron and charcoal, lacquer red and pale grey, navy and chartreuse — punctuated by crisp white floral forms.
Today, these sample sheets are highly sought after by:
Interior designers
Textile collectors
Mid-century modern specialists
Fashion and design archives
They function equally as design documents and ready-to-frame wall art.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
Quadriga Cloth was part of the E&W Brands textile program, which supplied durable, fashion-forward printed cottons to the booming postwar American interiors market.
Sample sheets like this were:
✔ Used by showroom sales representatives
✔ Presented to decorators and department store buyers
✔ Produced in limited quantities and typically discarded after seasonal use
Surviving examples are increasingly scarce — especially complete pages with multiple colorways.
This is a true mid-century design archive piece, not a later reproduction.
CONDITION:
Very good vintage condition consistent with age.
Light creasing and edge wear to the paper presentation sheet, as expected for a working trade sample.
Textile swatches remain vibrant and well-preserved. Would read beautifully framed.
STYLING IDEAS:
This piece is not just ephemera — it’s instant wall art.
Best placements:
✨ In a lacquered entry with brass lighting
✨ In a Palm Beach guest room for a punch of color
✨ In a fashion closet or dressing room
✨ Paired with other framed textile studies in a grid
✨ In a kitchen breakfast nook for a playful MCM moment
