A stunning example of the Mexican Folk Art pottery produced in the renown ceramics center Barrio de la Luz in Puebla (Centro Alfarrero del Barrio de la Luz)
An oval, deeper plate "plato" or a bowl "cuenco" with two attached handles, which eventually used to be hung on the wall
Very well elaborated with finely detailed decoration in relief, featuring a fish in the center with two stylized serpents above, in the style typical of the turn of the 20th century Barrio de la Luz production
Glossy glaze in dark and lighter brown, imitating tortoise shell, "barro vidriado"
A very RARE find, it is virtually impossible to come by one in this state of preservation nowadays, a museum piece.
Circa late 19th/early 20th century, Puebla, Mexico
Measurements: Approximately 13.75" handle to handle x 9" across x 4" high w. handle x 2.5" deep
It weighs 1 lbs. 15 oz.
