These charming 19th-century Staffordshire cats were hand-crafted in earthenware, just as they would have been in Victorian England. The softer clay body allowed artisans to create expressive faces and confident stances, giving each figure its own personality.
The small holes found in the body are original kiln vent holes, made during firing to prevent cracking. They’re a reassuring sign of age and authenticity and are commonly found on true antique Staffordshire figures.
