A 1965 portrait etching titled "Death's Head-Hussar" by American artist Jack Levine (1915-2010). This piece features a man posing in uniform and wearing a monocle and is displayed in a black frame and a white mat. The print is signed to the bottom right and numbered 48/100 in the bottom left corner.
Jack Levine was an American painter who specialized in satirical and social commentary regarding class systems and authority structures in the west. Levine enrolled in art classes at the Museum Fine Arts School of Boston and received free art lessons from Dr. Denman Ross of Harvard University who recognized his exceptional talent. Unlike many artists of the time period Levine did not stray from figural subject matter for abstract compositions. His work can now be found int he collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. among others.
