Vintage Mitterteich Bavaria 10.5" Cabinet Plate – Gilded Neoclassical "Courting Couple" Scene
This stunning 10.5-inch porcelain cabinet plate from Mitterteich, Bavaria, is a masterclass in early 20th-century German craftsmanship. The plate features a rich cranberry red (or deep cobalt) background, accented by an elaborate gold gilt border of scrolling foliate and floral motifs. At the center is a beautifully detailed, hand-painted neoclassical scene depicting a "courting couple," a hallmark of the romantic style produced by the Mitterteich factory.
The green and gold maker's mark on the reverse indicates this piece was manufactured in Germany after 1920, reflecting the elegant Art Deco and interwar styling for which Bavarian porcelain is renowned.
Dimensions:
10.5”W x 10.5”D x 1.5”H
Condition:
The plate is in excellent vintage condition with remarkable preservation of its gilding and central imagery. It is free of chips, cracks, or heavy crazing. Some minor shelf wear on the bottom rim and very slight fading to the gold edges may be present, consistent with its age as a decorative display piece.
Brimming with continental romance and luxurious detail, this Mitterteich plate is a standout addition to any fine china cabinet or a sophisticated gift for a lover of European porcelain.
