These aprons are significant pieces of ethnographic heritage from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, often dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
This apron features distinctive horizontal stripes, in red, black, yellow and gold. A defining feature is the addition of original coins, sometimes if Ottoman original or Islamic “billon” coins. Aprons are frequently adorned with gold embroidery, metallic threads, brocade ribbons, and commercial lace trims.
The tradition of sewing coins onto garments dates back to ancient times and often holds symbolic or festive significance.

This apron was purchased 1980’s while traveling ( I bought several ) Bulgaria, stored since. Pictures show you each and every male, no hidden damages.
