Spode covered soup tureen richly decorated in deep cobalt blue with refined gold trim. This elegant piece reflects the timeless quality and craftsmanship for which Spode is celebrated, offering both beauty and tradition in one impressive serving vessel. Both the lid and bowl are inscribed in gilt with the motto “Ferre Va Ferme,” which translates from French as “The shod horse goes surely”—the Ferrar family motto—displayed beneath a horseshoe flanked by wings.
Clearly marked on both the foot underside and lid interior with the green stamped Spode Copeland’s China England and the blue stamped T. Goode & Co. London, it is also numbered 9603 in red hand-painted script. Thomas Goode & Co., founded in 1827, is one of London’s most prestigious luxury retailers, long associated with fine china, silver, and glassware and known for its historic connection to the British Royal Family. These marks add notable provenance and collector appeal.
This elegant Spode pattern features a cobalt rim with rich gold Greek key detailing and ring accents, creating a look that feels both classic and understated. The design honors traditional English style while maintaining a balanced, composed look that never feels excessive. Its timeless palette allows it to fit seamlessly into both traditional and modern interiors, and the deep blue and gold tones complement a wide variety of existing dinnerware patterns, from crisp white porcelain to more ornate or contemporary settings. The lid includes an opening for a ladle, making it practical for serving soups or stews at gatherings and dinner parties. When not in use, it serves beautifully as a centerpiece on a sideboard, or within a curated china cabinet display.
Ideal for collectors of fine English porcelain, admirers of heritage tableware, or anyone building a formal entertaining collection, this tureen would also make a memorable wedding or anniversary gift. It pairs effortlessly with crisp white dinnerware, gold flatware, and richly set tables.
