Unique handwoven Sumba warp Ikat textile, a hinggi ( man’s ceremonial mantle ), featuring traditional indigo blue and white motifs.
Antique Indonesian textile, handwoven on a backstrap loom, often made in pairs. This traditional textile features Sumban motifs such as stylized animals, which were important status symbols. The blurred patterns are characteristic of the complex Ink resist-dyeing technique used before weaving the fabric.
Purchased while traveling Indonesia 1970’s and stored since, never used. Pictures show you each and every angle, no hidden damage.
