It is likely a piece of "trench art" or a military commemorative relic, shaped like a helmet.

subject and style: the inkwell faithfully reproduces a period military helmet (reminiscent of the lines of the french adrian or similar models used in the great war), enhanced by a woven wire crest and copper-plated edges. Opening the "helmet" via the rear zipper reveals a purple fabric-lined interior containing two faceted crystal ink bottles with brass caps.

material and finish: the frame is crafted of brass and metal with a dark, authentic patina. The internal containers are made of thick glass/crystal. The interior is lined with purple fabric (silk or satin).
