Extremely rare piece of baseboard chinoiserie of 71 x 28h x 16 deep. An extraordinary find in the luxury furniture market, this 4-door sideboard is a "masterwork" example of Hollywood Regency craftsmanship. While standard high-end pieces of this era typically feature 40 to 60 pieces of hardware, this cabinet boasts an incredible 100+ front-side brass inserts, representing a massive investment in manufacturing labor and material density.
Construction & Engineering:
What truly distinguishes this piece is the sophisticated "sandwich" through-panel construction. Unlike standard surface-mounted ornaments, these brass inserts are structurally integrated and visible from the interior back of the panels. This rare assembly method is a hallmark of top-tier 1970s manufacturers and is a specific detail sought after by collectors of Mastercraft and the designs of William Doezema.
Aesthetic & Finish:
The sideboard features a deep, lustrous black lacquer finish (Factory Code: BLA) contrasted by parchment-style gold-leaf panels. The high hardware density creates a rhythmic, architectural "brass-wrap" effect that embodies the opulence of the mid-century elite. The internal factory codes (742 BLA 243) are consistent with the upper-echelon Asian-inspired runs produced by prestigious firms such as Henredon or Thomasville.
Market Context:
A direct style competitor to acid-etched Bernhard Rohne pieces and Maitland-Smith Chinoiserie, this sideboard’s scale and hardware complexity place it at the apex of the 1970s luxury market.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The lacquer remains vibrant, and all brass inserts are present and original.

"This piece is in remarkable condition for its age. The structure is sound and perfectly stable. The original black lacquer finish maintains a deep, lustrous sheen, with only extremely light surface micro-scratches consistent with age and invisible at a normal viewing distance. All brass inserts are present, original, and feature a subtle natural patina that underscores the piece's authenticity. The four doors align perfectly and operate smoothly. No major chips, cracks, or structural restorations to report." less
