It is … Read more This Really is an Great Looking and Quite Rare Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Butter Churn. Circa 1880s. It is Embossed with a Number 4 Confirming its Four Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed With Navy Blue Highlights and Signed by the Well Documented Maker BANGOR STONEWARE COMPANY in BANGOR MAINE. Records Indicate that this Company was Founded in 1880 by Andrew Persson a Native of Sweden. It has a Salt Glaze Exterior and it is Rendered in a Classic American Jug Form with a Tapered Waist. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Excellent All Original Condition. It No Cracks & No Repairs. It has Wonderful Naturally Aged Patina - Displays Greatly!.It Does Have a Few Very Minor Surface Only Glaze Imperfections - Spots at the Lower Perimeter Area All of which Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. NOTE That it Comes With its Original Wood Top - Lid but it is Missing the 'Plunger". Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired..
