Description
A superbly crafted mid-19th century English inkwell and inkstand set exemplifying the refined elegance of the Victorian neoclassical style. This distinguished desk accessory features silverplate over copper construction with exquisite decorative details throughout.
The oval inkstand base (approximately 10" x 8" x 5") stands on four gracefully proportioned feet and showcases a stunning neoclassical border with intricate scrollwork and palmette motifs. The rich, naturally aged patina speaks to its authentic Victorian heritage, though it could be polished to a brilliant shine if desired.
The set includes two substantial cut crystal inkwells with domed silverplate lids, each featuring a diamond-point pattern that catches and refracts light beautifully. One lid opens to reveal a burgundy velvet-lined interior, a luxurious touch that protected precious ink from evaporation. The central oval lid with decorative finial adds architectural interest and likely concealed a third compartment for pens or accessories.
A thoughtfully integrated pen tray at the front provides convenient storage, while the entire composition demonstrates the Victorian era's commitment to functional beauty in everyday objects.

Condition

Crystal inkwells are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Both fitted lids function properly. The velvet liner in one lid shows age-appropriate wear. All structural elements are sound and stable.
This piece has been preserved in its original state without modern restoration, maintaining its integrity as a genuine Victorian antique.
