This piece came down through a family out of Texas, and it was reputed to be on a war plane that one of their ancestors had flown in WW2. The family story is that he crashed and won a Purple Heart medal for his service.

In any case, the mixed medium of mahogany and brass is stunning and it will make a wonderful wall decoration for any home or office with some ties to American history. On the propeller, the stamps are Cresent No 17 and 72-45. 72 would have been the original length of the propeller and 45 was the pitch.
