The Bergère style chair originated in the 1700s in France and typically featured upholstered backs, arms and cushions. They typically featured wood frames that were either gilded or painted. This excellent giltwood piece has an excellent patina with gilded features. Bergère chairs, or "shepherdess chairs," further developed into various styles, such as Directoire, Louis XVI, rococo, among other styles. We are pleased to present this excellent example of the Louis XVI style. See less
