Pair 19th Century French Louis XVI Painted Armchairs is a superlative decorative accent that just happens to provide seating! Hand-carved from solid walnut, each features a distinctive neoclassical theme in its carved embellishment that is enhanced by the patina of the original painted finish. The contoured oval seatback is framed with spiral ribbon trim topped with roses at the top center. Supports are carved with foliate plumes, repeated on the tips of the armchairs. The curved armrest supports continue the spiral ribbon motif down into the framework around the seat, punctuated by the rosettes atop the tapered and fluted legs. Silk upholstery is serviceable but does show appropriate yet wonderful signs of age.
Circa 1890s
Each measures 37H x 23W x 22.5D; seat 17.5H
