Notes from the Setsoto site:
’Setsoto’ is a local word in the Sesotho language that denotes admiration.
Setsoto design therefore literally means ‘admirable designs’ or a place of admiration.
This name has become a symbol of the gallery. Indeed, it is a place of admiration because from a humble beginning it is now known to be the oldest, largest and best
weaving gallery in southern Africa. Various awards conferred by the South Africa Wool
The wool is sheared from the Angora Goat and is known as mohair.
The wool is carded and spun.
The spun mohair is then washed.
The mohair is dyed by hand over open fires according to the designer’s instructions
and specific requirements of the proposed tapestry.*
