A magnificent example of 19th-century European craftsmanship, this armchair is a study in sculptural elegance and historical grandeur. This piece, originating from Denmark, draws inspiration from Italian and French design during the late 1800s, captures the essence of the era's opulent design.
The throne features a high, slightly angled back and a generously proportioned seat, both upholstered in a rich, red damask or brocade fabric with an intricate golden star-shaped pattern, finished with decorative brass nailhead trim. The frame is expertly carved from solid oak, showcasing the distinctive turned work of the period.
The elegantly long and high armrests are a particular highlight, organically decorated with detailed carvings of acanthus leaves and scrolling motifs terminating in a bold volute. The design is further defined by the robust, baluster-and-block turned legs and H-shaped stretchers, which provide both structural integrity and visual rhythm.
This "poltrone da parata" or ceremonial armchair, with its imposing silhouette and rich materials, is a testament to the status and taste of its original owner. It offers a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of furniture history, perfect for adding a touch of authentic antique luxury to a stylish interior.
The chair’s frame is firm and solid. The fabric is intact but shows noticeable wear in several areas, with fading and uneven color, please see photos. It is usable as is if you are comfortable with a clearly vintage, medium worn look. However, we recommend reupholstering in the near future.
