This is a 19th century water bottle from the Auvergne region of France. The bottles were glazed on the top … Read more This is a 19th century water bottle from the Auvergne region of France. The bottles were glazed on the top half. The bottom half of the bottles were left unglazed. They were buried in the soil part of the way to keep the water inside the bottle cool. We now love to use them as a decorative object or as a vase. The painted pattern on this one makes it especially attractive for room decor. There are a couple of chips on the bottom edge and some of the glaze has worn away in spots. The condition is consistent withe the age of the piece. See less
