Authentic vintage Hawaiian poi pounder handcrafted by the Brantley Center in Honokaa, Hawaii. Expertly turned from richly figured koa wood, this sculptural form features the traditional mushroom-shaped profile used for pounding taro into poi, with a smooth domed handle and flared base designed for balance and control.
The wood displays a warm honey-to-amber tone with beautiful natural grain variation, highlighting the quality of the material and skilled hand-turning. Pieces from the Brantley Center are increasingly collectible, valued for their connection to Hawaiian cultural heritage and their emphasis on traditional craftsmanship.
This piece works beautifully both as a functional cultural object and as a sculptural accent in a modern, organic, or mid-century–inspired interior. Displays well on open shelving, coffee tables, or curated collections of wood art and ethnographic objects.
Condition is very good vintage, with light surface wear consistent with age and careful use, adding character without compromising integrity.
A timeless example of Hawaiian woodcraft and an elegant object with history, presence, and purpose.
