An outstanding tea caddy container, an example of the finest British 18th century enamel technique
Enameled over copper throughout the body
Period-characteristic octagonal form
Cobalt Blue ground with scenic medallions - two similar pastoral scenes on either side, floral bouquet medallions on short sides and on top
The original lid is retained, which screws to the body to keep it closed tight, also with a floral bouquet motif decoration
Characteristic portrayal and foliate borders and ornamentation, in White
Tagged on the underside by a previous collector or gallery

This type of finely crafted enamelware is known as collectively as Battersea enamel, to distinguish it as a solely British production. However, pieces like this were produced in several places in England during the period, notably Bilston, Birmingham, Staffordshire, Midlands and the namesake London suburb of Battersea
