An exceptional French demi-lune console table, crafted circa 1920, distinguished by its extraordinary breccia marble top, a truly one-of-a-kind natural work of art whose coloration and movement elevate this piece well beyond standard Neoclassical revival furniture.
The generously scaled half-moon marble slab displays a dramatic palette of rose, ochre, ivory, charcoal, and soft green veining, cut and shaped to follow the curved façade. The stone alone commands attention and serves as the defining element of the table, offering visual depth and contrast that reads powerfully on camera and in editorial interiors.
The base is finely executed in mahogany, featuring elegant marquetry inlay with classical swag motifs across the frieze, flanked by fluted panels and fitted with original brass pulls. The table stands on tapered, fluted legs with gilt highlights, joined by a beautifully proportioned arched stretcher, centered by a carved urn finial and enriched with gilded laurel garlands and a central medallion.
Produced during a period when French workshops were still working at an artisanal level, this console reflects the best of early 20th-century Neoclassical craftsmanship, combining traditional techniques with a refined architectural presence.
From a design perspective, the demi-lune form, contrasting materials, and sculptural silhouette make this console exceptionally photogenic. It functions as a natural anchor piece beneath a mirror or artwork and layers beautifully with contemporary lighting, ceramics, and sculpture. The curved profile softens interiors while the marble provides visual weight—qualities designers seek when creating high-impact, camera-ready spaces.
Designed to anchor a wall in an entry hall, dining room, or formal living space, this console transitions effortlessly between classical, transitional, and modern interiors, making it as practical as it is decorative.
Condition
Very good antique condition. Minor surface wear consistent with age. Gilt details retain a warm, desirable patina. The marble top presents beautifully, with natural veining and character that underscore its uniqueness.
