Exceptional late 19th century (1860-1870), napoleon III period, work table, the hinged, shaped rectangular top with crossbanding & parquetry inlaid kingwood, opening to an original mirror & fitted interior with lift out compartmented tray, above a shaped ormolu mounted frieze with a pull out storage well below, raised on graceful cabriole legs terminating in applied gilt bronze sabots. Bearing “tahan paris” engraved on the lockplate. Similar table online nearly $8,000!

About Tahan:
Official Ebiniste to emperor napoleon III & Empress Eugenie - known for her beauty and impeccable taste, she enjoyed her reputation as a leading trend setter & favored the works of Rahan. Tahan exhibited at the London crystal palace exhibition in 1851 & the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1855, awarded medals on both occasions. He won the gold medal at the worlds fair in 1867.
