Cloisonné, an ancient art of creating designs with colored enamel held by metal wires (cloisons), originated in the ancient Near East around 4000 years ago, evolving from techniques holding gems, later spreading to Greece, Byzantium, and the Islamic world, becoming famous in China (especially Ming/Qing dynasties) as Jingtai Blue, and flourishing in Japan (Meiji era) with vibrant artistry.
