This beauty's inspiration comes from the style of baskets used by bakers in the 1950s to transport hot bread from the ovens to the store shelves. Handwoven from sturdy willow, the lip's frame, rim and double handle are made from bamboo; rattan accent trim and lashing. Substantial in size, the basket artisan used an over and under randing weave with a coquettish center dip on each side. In excellent condition with irregularities and variations in color and texture that are characteristic of any handwoven basket and add to the natural beauty. There are a few snapped weavers throughout that are indiscernible and do not affect its sturdiness or utility. It measures 18” x 14¾” x 15” W/D/H (height includes handle); interior 17¼” x 13¼” x 5½” W/D/H; weight 1.4 lbs. The major part of the basket’s body, double handle and rim are varying earth tone hues of naturally aged willow and bamboo; bottom, lashing and nine runners at the bottom of the basket are a dusty sage hue, which adds visual interest and contrast. Purchased this beauty over 25 years ago from a local vintage store that is no more. Full of orbs and spheres on an ottoman for decor or garden basket full of freshly cut flowers or vegetables, the possibilities are endless on how this rustic beauty will serve you best!
