Created in Provincial France in the mid-19th century, part of the traditional old world industrial winemaking process, this massive wooden basket was once carried on the vineyard workers back and filled as he/she picked grapes off the vines during harvesting.

Featuring rustic handmade solid pine slatted construction with forged iron bands and fittings, the leather back straps lost to time, having a sculptural form with tall tapering bow front straight back and rounded sides, in the original red paint finish, dated "1867", with the vineyards logo and "L A" painted in white.
