This antique Eastlake Victorian triple bookcase, dating to circa 1880, is a handsome and well-proportioned example of late 19th-century American cabinetry. Crafted in walnut, the piece reflects the Eastlake movement’s emphasis on clean lines, incised detail, and restrained ornamentation, while still offering the warmth and richness associated with Victorian interiors. The substantial cornice, geometric moldings, and carefully articulated case give the bookcase a strong architectural presence.
The bookcase features three glazed doors opening to adjustable interior shelving, making it both visually appealing and highly functional. The walnut displays attractive grain throughout, particularly on the door frames and drawer fronts, and is complemented by original-style brass hardware and strap hinges that add period character. A row of drawers beneath the doors provides additional storage and balances the overall design, while the shaped base and subtle decorative elements anchor the piece visually.
The bookcase is in nice antique condition, with wear consistent with age and normal use. There is light surface wear to the finish and minor signs of use to the interior shelves. One drawer pull is broken, though the drawer remains functional. The piece is structurally sound and very usable, offering an excellent example of an Eastlake-era bookcase well suited for a library, study, dining room, or as a statement storage piece in a traditional or eclectic interior. 63h x 73w x 15d shelf depth 9
