Antique English Royal Doulton stoneware tobacco jar, c.1850
These were used to store tobacco, in this case a variety called “Ruby Flake”. They were also used for advertising product, in this case for the retailer Belway.. This urn is in a deep cobalt blue glaze with gold backed lettering and is in good condition with no cracks or chips. There is age and use wear to the gold and black lettering. The underside shows the Royal Doulton impresses mark. The Michael Davis shipping label has the name Charles Gill. He was a prominent dealer and decorator from Los Angeles in the 1980’s
