34”W x 37.25”H Excellent condition, Lithograph in colors on heavy, crisp white, archival-quality matte finish paper, produced and published by Tyler Graphics, Mount Kisco, New York, Unframed.
This exquisite and highly coveted Original poster for Piscines de Papier (Paper Pools) was produced in 1980 for Editions Herscher, Paris to promote the French edition of the book David Hockney: Paper Pools. It's a high quality color lithograph printed on heavy, crisp white matte finish paper, featuring Day Pool With Three Blues (Paper Pool #7), 1978, a rich and colorful rendition of one of the artist's iconic swimming pools.
In the summer of 1978, on route from England to his home in Los Angeles, David Hockney stopped by upstate New York to visit the workshop of master printer Kenneth Tyler, founder of the renowned Tyler Graphics Studio. During the visit, Tyler introduced Hockney to an innovative new technique involving colored paper pulp: wet, pigment-dyed rags were applied to wet handmade paper, creating richly textured surfaces, infused with vibrant, shifting hues and color nuances. Hockney was immediately captivated by the method’s potential—particularly its ability to convey the elusive, fleeting qualities of water, a subject he had long been fascinated by and struggled to depict convincingly. Inspired by this discovery, Hockney spent the following six weeks at the studio creating a series of 29 unique works, which would become an important part of the artist’s oeuvre. Day Pool with Three Blues (Paper Pool #7) is one of these seminal pieces. This poster of the work has become a highly prized collectible for its exceptional quality and fidelity to the original as it was produced and published during the same period by the collaborator of these works, Kenneth Tyler.
