Elevated on tapered legs, the cabinet combines clean minimalist lines with warm richly figured teak and contrasting darker trim throughout.

The asymmetrical façade is defined by three concealed cabinet compartments paired with a dramatic bank of eight long horizontal drawers, creating a strong rhythmic presence across the front elevation. Integrated sculpted pulls are subtly recessed into the upper edges of the cabinet doors, preserving the uninterrupted modernist silhouette while emphasizing the precision of the design.

The contrast between the warm teak drawer fronts and the darker framing elements gives the piece a sophisticated graphic quality reminiscent of Scandinavian modern cabinetry while retaining a distinctly British mid century sensibility. 

All the sideboards by this London maker have solid Japanese oak interiors and hand cut dovetails with solid teak fronts . It’s extremely heavy and is nicely finished at the back which most sideboards aren’t including many well known Danish models.

Ward and Austin were a successful design team who worked for a number of makers in the late 1950’s and 60’s. They never labelled their pieces which were sold through quality shops such as Selfridges in London and good provincial companies. This model has been attributed to them. See less
