RARE antique Sterling Stanford University souvenir spoon. Made by Paye & Baker in their collectible art nouveau 'Poppy' pattern featuring deep carvings on both sides of the handle.
The bowl is engraved 'MEMORIAL CHURCH AT STANFORD PALO ALTO CAL.'

Stamped on back of the handle with the Paye & Baker hallmark and "STERLING."
Mild wear and light tarnish. No monogram.

Memorial Church, a nondominational church which opened in 1903, is considered one of the architectural gems of the university. It was severely damaged in the 1906 earthquake. A notable feature of this spoon is that it shows the church as it looked pre quake, with the steeple. The steeple fell down in the quake and was not rebuilt.
