Decorative pair of French musician figures in patinated spelter, after models by Auguste-Joseph Peiffer (1832–1886). The figures are hollow-cast and modeled in flowing robes with expressive movement and fine surface detail, presenting strongly as a matched decorative pair.
Each figure stands approximately 23 inches high and is mounted on later plinth bases. The surfaces retain an overall dark patina with areas of age-consistent wear.
There is evidence of a historic lamp conversion, now inactive, with drilled openings visible at the base and body; no wiring remains.
Condition note: one figure’s guitar element has broken off and is currently detached. The piece is present and could be repaired if desired. Aside from this, both figures are structurally sound, stable, and display well.
Well-suited for use as console, mantel, or bookshelf sculptures, or for restoration/re-wiring as statement lamps if desired. Appropriate for traditional, eclectic, or transitional interiors.

The figures were previously converted to lamps at some point in their history and have since been fully de-wired. As a result, there are cleanly drilled holes visible: one through the base, one through the plinth, and one on the body of each figure. These holes are consistent with historic lamp conversion and do not affect structural stability. One figure’s guitar element is detached (broken off) and present. The break appears clean and the piece could be repaired if desired. The figure remains stable and displays well as-is. The patinated metal surfaces show age-appropriate wear, including light scuffing, rubbing, and small areas of surface loss consistent with normal handling and age. Minor chips to the dark patina reveal a lighter underlying metal in a few spots. Figures are mounted on later, lightweight plinths, which are not original to the sculptures. The figures are solidly seated and display well. Overall, the pair is structurally sound, stable, and visually strong, with condition consistent with decorative objects of this type and age. less
