This copper engraving titled, “Lima Romana”, is from Nuremberg Hesperides (1708-1714) the renowned 18th Century botanical work focusing on citrus fruits. It depicts a Roman lime floating over the Contarini family palace in Este, Italy. The artist was Johann Volckamer, with Joseph de Montalegre as the key engraver of the work. The piece is on laid paper and the hand coloring appears to be unfinished.
Copper plate imprint measures approximately 8.25” x 12.5”.
