A large vintage Murano art glass bowl manufactured by Seguso Vetri D'Arte or Archimede Seguso Murano Venice in the 1950s. The bowl is made of thick blue glass with gold foil decoration on the inside. A magnificent example of mid-century modern Murano glass that will enrich any Murano glass collection. Good condition with some rough spots on the inside caused by the manufacturing process.

The Seguso family has been documented as glassmakers in Venice since the 14th century. Seguso Vetri d'Arte was founded in 1933 by several glass masters amoung Archimede, Ernesto and Alberto Seguso. In 1934 Flavio Poli became artistic director and in 1937 partner. In the 1950s and 60s the Sommerso, Valva and Siderale designs of Poli became very successsful. After the retirement of Poli in 1963 Mario Pinzoni took over the artistic direction. After economic difficulties and some name changes the company was liquidated in 1985. Giampaolo Seguso, son of Archimede Seguso, and his sons Gianluca, Pierpaolo and GianAndrea established Seguso Viro in 1993. In 2007 the family was able to buy back the Seguso Vetri d'Arte brand. Today the company still manufactures under its historical name.
