This chair is a bespoke commission, likely made for a distinguished client in the late 19th or early 20th century. with its grand proportions, deeply carved mahogany legs, and original stamped markings, this piece represents the pinnacle of British furniture craftsmanship.
This chair retains its original horsehair stuffing, hand-carved mahogany frame, and signature Howard & Sons stamp to the back leg, reading “Howard & Sons Ltd, Berners St”, with serial numbers dating it to 1876. Additionally, the traditional hessian backing bears the original stencil, further confirming its authenticity.
