Iconic Mid-Century Modern Art Deco lounge chair by Jindřich Halabala with sculptural bentwood arms. This exceptional Mid-Century Modern Art Deco lounge chair was designed by Czech master Jindřich Halabala and produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1940s. Widely regarded as one of the most influential designers of Central European modern furniture, Halabala is celebrated for his sculptural use of bentwood, architectural clarity, and timeless proportions. This chair represents a rare and highly collectible crossover between classic Art Deco elegance and early Mid-Century Modern design. The design is defined by its elegantly curved solid wood armrests, formed from bentwood and flowing seamlessly from back to front in a continuous sculptural gesture. The slightly reclined backrest and generous seat depth provide excellent comfort while maintaining a refined, architectural silhouette. The tapered wooden legs further enhance the chair’s light and balanced appearance. This example retains its original period upholstery, upholstered in a textured green fabric with contrasting piping. The upholstery shows visible wear consistent with age and use, and re-upholstery is recommended. This offers an excellent opportunity for customization, allowing the chair to be re-covered in a fabric of choice while preserving the original Halabala frame and proportions—an option particularly attractive for interior designers and collectors. Halabala lounge chairs are highly sought after for their versatility and strong visual presence, fitting seamlessly into Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, and contemporary interiors alike. Whether placed in a living room, study, or design-focused commercial space, this chair stands as a sculptural statement piece and a testament to European modernist craftsmanship. A rare opportunity to acquire an authentic 1940s Mid-Century Modern lounge chair by Jindřich Halabala—an enduring icon of Czech design history.
